October 2007

Every year, shortly before the “official” Nobel prizes are awarded, the Annals of Improbable Results awards the IgNobels for the most bizarre and amusing research. My favourite this year is the award in Linguistics, which was given to a University of Barcelona team for showing that rats are unable to tell the difference between a person speaking Japanese backwards and somebody speaking Dutch backwards. Now that’s what I call science.
