October 2007

Frenchman with too much money has set up a theme park in which he’s repopulating the foothills of the alps with some of the animals that roamed there before we ate them all (bison, Przewalski’s horse, red deer…). Exactly the kinds of animals humans painted in Lascaux and other caves 15,000 years ago. The site is just down the road from where we go on the France field course – we’ll check it out this year, and if it’s good, we may organise a trip to the park in 2009. Is there a scientific point to this ecological exploit?

Independent article about the Park; Official site of the fantastic paintings from Lascaux (15,000 years old).
